Narrative Theory- AS Origin story

AS Origin 

In the opening of our short film it starts off tranquil, showing scenic shots of the beach and the location of the narrative. The narrative starts calm until a hand slowly starts to appear on screen, creating tension and then our character appears out of the water, the shot is sped up to almost surprise the audience.

The film follows in chronological order although the audience can only guess what has happened in the past and come to their own conclusions and find deeper meaning in our film, subtle hints are shown such as the effects on our characters hands and neck to try and imply that the character may have been hanged also the dress symbolises what era she may have been murdered in. The audience finds out what happens in each scene as does the character, this highlights plot construction and the plot keeps the audience interested. 

In these scenes the car is shown first then the characters reaction to modern technology, nothing has happened to move forward the narrative story but it does make it more dramatic to the audience and more apparent that the plot in this story is about someone coming back to life after the witch trials.

The next scene shows our character running up a hill, here the location of the narrative has changed slightly, the audience can assume and put together the shots in between of our character going from the last scene to the next, the temporal order has been changed slightly.

The camera begins to pan around our character showing her reaction to what she sees in front of her, yet the audience don't know, as well as this the audio begins to speed up adding to the uncertainty of what our character is looking at.

Finally the camera shows our characters point of view of what she is seeing, the audience are made to see the narrative has been building up to show that the character is looking at what is presumed to be her old home. Todorov, Strauss-Levi and Propp's theory can not be applied to our film as we only had one character through out as well as conflict being in our story from the beginning so there was no equilibrium or disequilibrium.
