YOUTH: A2 Film Overview and Challenges

Initially myself and my group, Anna Campfield, Anna Horner and Erin Davison, found it hard to come up with an idea we could all agree on and work with. Unlike last year where the idea for Origin came very early to us in a short space of time.

We decided to go for a Si-fi short film where to unsuspecting men (friends or relatives) walk into a house and in the house find Margaret. We plan to portray Margaret as an middle aged woman, who is sitting unnaturally upright while shakenly sipping an empty tea cup. Both men are beyond confused, especially when Margaret is unresponsive to their shouts. One of the men then notices the ear piece in her ear and against his companion telling him no, he pulls it out of Margaret's ear. Margaret falling to the floor but when the camera pans down instead of a body we see a heap of the clothes that Margaret was wearing. Both men become even more confused and start to get scared, then Steve, the man who pulled the ear piece out, hears voices from the ear piece and stupidly puts it to his own ear before Mick, the other man, can stop him.
Here we hope to let the viewer hear what Steve is now hearing, who is now standing too still with a blank expression after putting the ear piece in. The ear piece will sound like a robot woman who is informing Steve of the revitalise program, only he can't move. After a certain amount of time Steve disappears and in his place is a young boy wearing similar clothing. Mick is able to deduce, much to his horror that this is a young Steve. Young Steve only acknowledges Mick when his name is called and then turns and leaves the room without uttering a word. Mick then notices the ear piece lying on the floor and we hope to end the film on a close up of a conflicted and curious Mick and then the camera will slowly zoom into the ear piece lying on the floor (which Mick is looking at) then the camera cuts. Hopefully this will leave the viewer wondering what decision Mick made.

The Re Vitalise Program is about turning the elderly into their former young selves again, at the peak of their human strength? As people are beginning to live longer there is now an increase in the elderly and not enough people have the time or resources to look after them. A secret program is devised to turn these elderly back into their best former young selves having no memory of what happened or themselves, so not only do they not need cared for but they can contribute back to society, the only question is, how many times have you been revitalised? - each generation is being forced to do it , mick and steve uncover the secret.

Challenges:

  • Finding the right actors, a middle-aged woman and two 30 year old men who must experienced or talented in acting and making sure they are available to film.
  • Getting the message across to the viewer and making sure they can understand what the re vitalise program is.
  • Making it clear to the viewer that Margret dropped dead as the program was not fully completed.
  • Getting the sound for the ear piece perfect and the location.
  • Making the reason how Mick and Steve know Margret in a few seconds of film time what connection do they have what job do the two men have?
